Mayer & Cie. wants to make itself less dependent on the textile market

The Albstadt-based circular knitting machine manufacturer Mayer & Cie. (MCT) generated sales of around EUR 110 million in 2018. Compared with the previous year, the long-established company reported a slight increase in sales even though 2018 was a year of considerable challenges and the global economic situation remains difficult, clouding the outlook for the year ahead. The company does, however, expect the industry?s leading trade fair ITMA to trigger a textile machinery recovery in early summer.

KARL MAYER presented its five-bar tricot machine, the COP 5 M-EL, to the wider public at ITMA ASIA + CITME 2018 in Asia for the first time. The former COP 5 version has been combined with KARL MAYER’s EL pattern drive in this model to create a tricot machine capable of producing an extensive range of patterns. Its performance was demonstrated at the in-house show held at KARL MAYER (CHINA) at the same time as the fair and was a complete success.

Mayer & Cie. (MCT) has since December a new line of business. From January 2019, the company is manufacturing braiding machines in addition to circular knitting machines at its Albstadt works. Mayer Braidtech, a wholly owned Mayer & Cie. subsidiary, is responsible for sales and service of the new machines, manufactured for the past 40 years by US-based affiliate Mayer Industries. With Mayer Industries due to cease operations in the medium term, Mayer & Cie. has decided to integrate and take forward this successful line of business at its Albstadt location.
