Kordsa showcased its high-performance textile structures for aircraft engines at Ceramics Expo 2019

Kordsa, global player in tire, construction reinforcement and composite technologies markets, participated in the Ceramics Expo 2019, the leading annual event for the advanced ceramics and glass supply chain, held in Cleveland, Ohio on April 30 – May 1, 2019. Acquired by Kordsa in 2018, Fabric Development Inc. (FDI) and Textile Products Inc. (TPI) represented Kordsa at the Expo and introduced Kordsa’s high-performance textile structures for the aerospace industry.

Bringing together engineers, decision makers, buyers, end users, professionals from the entire advanced ceramics and glass supply chain, Ceramics Expo in its fifth year hosted more than 300 leading global manufacturers and suppliers across the world. Kordsa participated in the Ceramics Expo with its US-based companies Fabric Development Inc. (FDI) and Textile Products Inc. (TPI), strategic suppliers of global aerospace industry.

Kordsa introduced its lightweight and durable ceramics fibers and textiles, providing extreme endurance with their high temperature resistance. Attendees who visited TDI and FPI joint stand had the opportunity to see first-hand and up close Kordsa’s competencies in high-performance ceramics.

More safety and comfort for protective clothing thanks to auxetic fabrics

When everyday materials are pulled, they stretch or elongate in the direction of the pull and become narrower in cross-section. We can also observe this property in two-dimensional textiles. Auxetic structures behave differently here. They have the striking property of not changing under tensile stress or even increasing their width or thickness. These properties are advantageous, for example, in protective textiles or textile filter media. The DITF are researching auxetic fabrics for various applications.
