Innovations in yarn and fabric testing by J.A. King at ATME-I

At least six innovations in textile quality control will be featured at ATME-I 2012 by the Tailored for Textiles division of J.A. King & Co (Booth 1613). The firm will also distribute copies of its new, 130-page catalog of test equipment for the fiber, yarn, fabric, nonwovens, dyeing, finishing and apparel sectors at the event, which is again being staged alongside Techtextil North America at the Georgia World Congress Center.

A new version of the famous King Yarn Package Classifier will be among textile testing instruments presented at the show by Robert Simpson and Russell Crompton. With hundreds already sold, this device is regarded as an essential tool for determining the density of yarn packages in winding and dyeing. The latest model has color touchscreen control and redesigned electronics, allowing storage and analysis of unlimited amounts of package data.

Further highlights for ATME-I visitors will include:
- A novel version of the King Fabric Stiffness Tester, with new digital force gage for more accurate results.
- A compact, low cost, bench-top Sample Cutting (Clicker) Press with 12 x 12 inch cutting table, 7 tons force capacity and pneumatic actuation for efficient control.
- A unique Digital Automatic Pick Counter with automatic measurement data fed to a computer screen.
- A new Universal Strength and Elongation Tester for fabric, yarn and fiber, allowing software connection by internet link to the King service center for upgrades, tuition and service.
- An updated Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester, with full enclosure and acrylic safety cover for upholstery and automotive applications.
- Certified Textile Testing Consumables from SDC Enterprises, UK, for ISO test methods, including Multifiber fabrics and ECE/IEC detergents.

J.A. King has been serving the textile industry for over 50 years, and now provides a wide range of quality control instruments and services from its Tailored for Textiles division HQ at Whitsett, NC.
Russell Crompton, one of the most successful and best-known figures in textile testing, joined the division last year from SDL Atlas LLC. In 27 years with SDL in the UK and USA, Russell and his team built the organization into the world's leading supplier of Textile Testing Products, before selling the group in 2003 and continuing to operate in sales and marketing roles with the new owners, Atlas MTS.
Russell’s goal at J.A. King TFT is to extend the company's range – already spanning more than 400 individual products – via websites and printed catalogs, to be among the global leaders in the textile testing equipment industry.
