Trevira wins Brandenburg Innovation Award

Trevira has been named winner of the “Brandenburg Innovation Award for Plastics and Chemistry 2019” by the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs for its new flame retardant, UV-resistant polyester yarn. The yarn, which is available in a variety of colours, is specially designed for outdoor applications. It was selected for the award by a jury of five, with the prize-giving ceremony taking place at the Cluster Conference Plastics and Chemistry on 21 November.

Trevira GmbH’s innovative new yarn combines multiple qualities in a way never before achieved for a polyester textile. The yarn features permanently integrated flame retardancy and UV protection, along with durable colour that is highly resistant to washing. It has immense potential for numerous applications in highly regulated outdoor sectors – for example in areas such as lounge furnishings for cruise ships.

CEO Klaus Holz said, “We are extremely pleased that our innovative development has been recognised by the jury of the Brandenburg Innovation Award. Our product demonstrates the enormous talent and potential of our development department.”

Five companies were nominated for this year’s innovation award, which carries a €10,000 prize. As part of the selection process, each company was invited to meet the jury in person to talk about their product. The Brandenburg Ministry for Economic Affairs describes the prize as rewarding outstanding ideas and solutions by Brandenburg start-ups and companies, along with creative solutions from cross-sector partnerships between companies and research institutions.

The Trevira CS brand is celebrating its debut at Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW), which takes place in London from May 21-23 2024. The brand is particularly targeting interior architects, interior designers, and contract furnishers to present its innovations on sustainability. Trevira CS stands for flame retardant fabrics that have been tested for fire safety. They also offer numerous sustainable properties.

Yarn Expo Spring 2026 concludes, connecting buyers with innovative selection of sustainable yarns and fibres

Yarn Expo Spring 2026 wrapped up successfully on 13 March, as a record-high of over 600 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions welcomed more than 25,000 visitors from 113 countries and regions. Held across 27,000 sqm in Hall 8.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the fair highlighted the textile industry’s accelerating shift toward a lower-impact, more functional future. Exhibitors presented eco-friendly organic, regenerated and recycled yarns and fibres, alongside innovative options such as sweat-resistant and high-performance materials. A comprehensive fringe programme further enriched the event, offering practical market insights and new networking opportunities.

Lenzing advances its transformation: Higher EBITDA, stronger free cash flow and more than EUR 200 million in cost savings

The business performance of the Lenzing Group in 2025 was affected particularly in the second half of the year by external factors such as international tariff measures, subdued demand and declining market prices. As a result, revenue decreased slightly by 2.3 percent to EUR 2.6 billion, primarily due to lower fiber sales volumes and lower prices for fibers and pulp, which were further negatively impacted by currency developments. Nevertheless, thanks to the comprehensive Performance Program, Lenzing was able to improve its operating performance and key financial indicators compared with the previous year.

By transforming approximately 20,000 pairs of post-consumer jeans into recycled feedstock for a textile-to-textile denim capsule, RE&UP demonstrates the commercial viability of circular systems in the denim sector.
