Art from textiles at 10th TEXTILE ART BERLIN

Amongst others it will be batik, dyeing, embroidery, fabric printing, felting, fibre art, ikat, lace making, knitting, knot work, paper, patchwork and quilt art, beadwork, silk painting, spinning, upcycling and – of course – weaving, as in 2014 TEXTILE ART BERLIN cooperates with weben+ under the motto “weave your life”.

A special anniversary guest presents one of the oldest crafts of mankind und shows the diversity of artistic expressions of hand weaving in exhibitions, active participation events and workshops.

TEXTILE ART BERLIN offers a remarkable range of textile works of art, a fantastic selection of difficult to find materials for lovers of handmade products, international textile and art books, stylish and funny fashion, elegant accessories and jewellery for a fashion conscious community, colourful interior decoration, quilts, designer objects in a modern material mix and antique treasures for collectors.

A selection of our 24 exhibitions
The special guest this year is Prof Laima Oržekauskienė from Lithuania. In her exhibition “Women in their fifties” she addresses the beauty of women in their fifties. The hand woven series of tapestries picture the many layers of life. Weben+ presents the entire range of woven threads with hand woven fabrics, clothes, vestments, tapestries and objects. “Best paper pulp” shows the astonished observer what can be created with paper pulp, cellulose and cardboard. We present weaving and tapestry techniques of the VDA (Vilniaus dailes akameija) art academy Kaunas in Lithuania und the artist Sky Lange-Ford shows her seamless, wearable corsages made from latex and necklaces.

A small selection of more than 130 sales booths
Gabriel Bur, the fashion designer behind the label “Berlin - my Inspiration”, presents his new collection of artistically fashioned t-shirts and skirts.
Bettina Kübler brings her favourite pieces, fresh and cheerful clothes made from woollen cloth and pure silk fabrics.

Eva Lippert uses weaving, embroidery, found objects, collages, prints and figurative painting and invites with her works to use one’s fantasy and invent one’s own stories.

It is every time astonishing to realize that the works of Gudrun Leitner are no paintings but sewn.

Anniette Beaucamp loves the brittleness of linen yarn. In her hand woven carpets and tapestries she plays with structures, lines and movement.

Guillermo Martinez weaves tapestries with hand spun and hand dyed wool in line with the traditions his home, of the Oaxaca region in Mexico, and develops a very personal contemporary design.

Margarete Palz presents visionary dance theatre and dance sculptures with photo paper clothes and enlivens many exhibitions and spectacles worldwide. She will present some of her models at the fashion Shows.

A selection of 28 workshops
The artists pass on their knowledge and skills in many workshops. Visitors can weave tapestries, create fabrics with a three-dimensional look, marble paper with a Japanese technique (Suminagaishi), try machine embroidery, weave trapezoid forms, create mottled yarn, embroider with metal threads, bind book with handmade paper and experience the magic of lace making.

Fashion shows
On Saturday evening the well-known fashion designer Pia Fischer presents “Das Fest der Fantasie” (The Feast of Imagination), a colorful collection of creations of different artists.

Specialty Café
The very popular specialty café, organized by the pupils of the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Schule, offers drinks and meals for the Visitors.

TEXTILE ART BERLIN is organized in cooperation with the Berlin section of Fachverband Textil, under the expert guidance of its president Ruth Fiedler. Patron of TEXTILE ART BERLIN 2014 is Mrs Monika Herrmann, district mayor and head of the division for family, health and personnel of the district government.
