Nanotechnology and Nylstar, first class partners

Nylstar, one of the leading providers of Polyamide 6.6 filaments and yarns will be presenting at Techtextile this year Meryl Warm and Meryl Cool together with Litrax’s L2 Warming and L5 Cooling additives.

Leader provider of Polyamide 6.6 will present Meryl Warm and Meryl Cool, developed with nanotechnology
Coproduced with Litrax Warming Technology L2, awarded as one of the “Top 5 Fiber Innovations” at ISPO Munich 2013, Meryl Warm is estimated to create rapid thermal insulation, heat storage and re-emission. L5 additives, on the other hand are expected to produce a cold effect on fabrics and garments. Blended with Polyamide 6.6 filaments, additional features are expected to be obtained, such as superior moisture management, odour reduction, UV protection or antibacterial functions. These new products have been thought for high performance sportswear, sleepwear, workwear, garments, or underwear.
Both Meryl Warm and Meryl Cool are in its development stage and Nylstar is very optimistic with the initial results. “We are thrilled with this partnership with Litrax, that reinforces our company’s commitment with innovation and further developments in nanotechnology”, says Montse Figueras, Product Development Director. “We hope that we will officially launch these new products in Intertextile Shanghai later this year”, she adds.
Nylgold®, Fibers Beyond Fashion – Meryl Warm and Meryl Cool are not the first nanotechnology projects Nylstar has been involved in. Nylgold, a deluxe fiber with anti-aging properties, was for the first time presented in October 2010, in Intertextile Shanghai. Nylgold was possible because of the close collaboration with Endor Nanotechnologies, a nanomedicine company that develops and manufactures innovative medical applications using inorganic nanoparticles conjugated to selected molecules. Nylgold is like no other fiber, it is the result of adding a combination of Gold and Hyaluronic Acid bonded nanoparticles to the Polyamide 6.6 yarns during the spinning process, changing its molecular composition. In contrast to cosmetics, Nylgold acts directly on the skin cells, stimulating its own Hyaluronic Acid production and achieving Moisturizing, Firming and Anti-Oxidant properties that may vary depending on the fabric construction and composition.
Nylstar’s Technical Manager, Jordi Casadevall, states that “numerous brands have already produced fabrics and garments with our Premium Fiber, where performance results have exceeded Nylstar’s expectations.” By activating the natural production of our Hyaluronic Acid, Nylgold moisturizes the skin. It is also anti-oxidant because it helps the body fight the effects of free radicals reducing Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production. Last, but not least, Nylgold has a firming effect on the skin, meaning that collagen is boosted, reducing wrinkles and helping the skin look smoother.
Tests on fabrics and garments made with Nylgold yarn have been conducted by Leitat, a Technological Center founded in 1906, and member of TECNIO, recognized and awarded for its activity on research, development and industrial innovation. Some of these tests show how, depending on the percentage and fiber construction, moisturizing efficacy increased up to 254% compared to not treated cells.

Nylstar will be showcasing Meryl Warm, Meryl Cool, its Premium Fiber Nylgold and other innovations in Stand 4.1 B68 at Techtextile that will take place next 11th June to 13th June, 2013 in Frankfurt, Germany.
