KARL MAYER will present three new machines at ShanghaiTex

KARK MAYER can be found at ShanghaiTex 2015 in hall W1 on stand C01 – and there is no danger of missing the stand. Three of the company’s newest machines will be demonstrating their features and performance on a modern stand covering an area of 600 m2. These are the TM 4 TS EL, which KARL MAYER is using to get back into processing staple-fibre yarns on terry machines, the HKS 4-M, which is once again setting new standards for four-bar HKS machines in terms of speed and - for the lace sector - an MJ 59/1 S Multibar Jacquardtronic® Lace.
This has a special bar configuration, enabling it to offer new patterning possibilities. Another machine in the MJ series, an MJ 59/1 B with a working width of 210", will be shown at an open-house event to be held at KARL MAYER (China) at the same time as ShanghaiTex. Two new innovations in the RD range of machines will also be demonstrated at the technology show in Changzhou City, i.e. an RDJ 5/1 and an RD 7/2-12 EN, each with new machine gauges.

For companies specialising in warp preparation, KARL MAYER will also be showing the IsoSize sizing machine and a creel.

In addition to the machine technology, the visitors will also be able to view a wide range of textile samples and examples of applications, and a large number of experts will be on hand to talk tofig. This all makes KARL MAYER’s stand at ShanghaiTex 2015 the first port of call for the sector.

The MJ model with a new bar configuration and extended patterning possibilities

A new MJ model, the MJ 59/1 S, will be on show on KARL MAYER’s stand. The “S” in the machine designation stands for “stitch forming” and indicates that the machine has a new configuration. In the front position of the knitting elements, this new machine has a stitch-forming jacquard bar and not the normal pillar-stitch-forming ground guide bar. The fabric ground is therefore produced exclusively by the split jacquard bar. The characteristic appearance features a perfectly symmetrical, regular net pattern, worked on the basis of a powernet lapping.

Other patterning possibilities are the result of the machine having 20 more guide bars compared to the JL 40 F Jacquardtronic® Lace version – for the same operating speed. Fabric produced on the MJ 59/1 S can also be produced in a lower weight than is normally typical for Jacquardtronic® lace and, in a gauge of E 28, has a fine, filigree appearance. The high stitch density also produces top-quality fabrics.

Visitors to ShanghaiTex 2015 will be able to see all this for themselves. An MJ 59/1 S, with a working width 134" and a gauge of E 28, will be producing lace with a variety of patterns during the trade fair. These patterns are all stretch galloons, one featuring a strawberry effect – a look that is produced by the jacquard bars executing a special lapping to create a surface covered in raised spots. Jamie Heather, a specialist in lace at KARL MAYER, also says that, in addition to these intricate designs, the MJ 59/1 S can also produce patterned shapewear. This is due to the special bar configuration, the high stitch density, the lapping possibilities offered by powernet, and the machine gauge of E 28. The MJ 59/1 S is generally also available in a gauge of E 24.

Tricot machine with four guide bars is now even faster

KARL MAYER will also be showing an HKS 4-M four-bar tricot machine, whose speed has also been optimised (Fig. 2). Depending on what it is being used for, this new high-speed model can reach up to 25% higher speeds than its predecessor. It is mainly the knitting movement that has been modified to enable it to do so. The developers at KARL MAYER have also adapted the entire supporting machine structure to cope with this increased speed.

The HKS 4-M can be fitted with N or EL pattern drive and with a drive for feeding elastane. However, the pile mechanism will no longer be available. The HKS 4 (EL) P will still be available for working warp-knitted textiles with pile loops.

The new HKS 4-M will be available in the current gauges of E 18 to E 32 and is available with a working width of 210" at the moment. Versions having widths of 130" and 180" will be available by the final expansion phase. Just like its predecessor, this new machine, with its new configuration, is ideal for producing all types of apparel textiles and semi-technical textiles, particularly fabrics for car seats. The HKS 4-M N will be demonstrating this at ShanghaiTex. During the machine show, this high-speed machine will be producing polyester car-seat upholstery for the automotive industry.

New terry machine for processing cotton

Following a gap in what was available in its portfolio, KARL MAYER has now launched onto the market a terry warp knitting machine for processing cotton. This new machine, known as the TM 4 TS EL (Teaser picture shows the new TM 4 TS EL at work ), can produce a wide variety of terry goods and offers a unique level of productivity. More especially, by using a modern EL drive system instead of the old mechanical system, the speed of the TM 4 TS EL has been increased by about 30% compared to the old KS 4 FBZ when producing hand towels with borders. Furthermore, increasing the working width of 136" to 186" has increased output by up to 36%.

Equipped with an electronic pattern drive, the TM 4 TS EL can achieve its full potential when producing hand and bath towels especially, i.e. webs with long repeats, smooth ends to the borders and cutting edges. The EL system also enables the pattern to be changed quickly – offering real advantages over the previous machine in terms of flexibility and handling. A six-track pattern drive with pattern discs and a counter for working the lapping was used on the previous machine.

This new machine will be demonstrating its performance features at ShanghaiTex 2015 by producing a typical hand towel. The machine at the trade fair will be operating in the standard gauge of E 24 for terry goods and with an integrated brushing unit.

In-house show to accompany ShanghaiTex, with the emphasis on 3D warp-knitted textiles and lace

KARL MAYER will be showing its latest developments in double-bar raschel machines during an in-house show at its Chinese subsidiary in Changzhou City at the same time as ShanghaiTex is taking place. An RDJ 5/1 (Fig. 4) and an RD 7/2-12 EN will be demonstrating their performance and features. These two new machines offer an excellent price-performance ratio and will be presented in new gauges.

The RD 7/2-12 EN will, therefore, be available in gauges E 18, E 22, E 24 and now also in a gauge of E 28. This double-bar raschel machine will be producing patterned warp-knitted spacer textiles for outerwear in this fine gauge at the company’s own in-house show at KARL MAYER (China). The new EN pattern drive will be illustrating its strengths (Fig.5), especially when working long repeats. For example, this innovation combines the lapping possibilities offered by long pattern chains with the user friendliness of computer control when changing patterns.

The RDJ 5/1 has also been extended by another gauge, i.e. this double-needle bar raschel machine for producing warp-knitted spacer textiles with jacquard patterning will be available in a gauge of E 24 in future. The RDJ 5/1 will also be demonstrating what types of fabric it can produce in this gauge at the machine show at KARL MAYER (China). The new machine will be producing spacer textiles with a soft handle and a stylish design for manufacturing shoes and outerwear. The machines on show at the in-house event in Changzhou City will be rounded of by an MJ 59/1B Multibar Jacquardtronic® Lace in a working width of 210".

Any visitors to the ShanghaiTex 2015 who are interested will be able to travel by bus from the Shanghai New International Expo Centre to Changzhou City. In addition to the machine show, the visitors to KARL MAYER (China) will be taken on a guided tour of the factory and have plenty of opportunity to discuss technical issues.

New study shows low environmental impact by Cotton made in Africa Organic Cotton from Tanzania

Today, the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) is announcing the results of a comprehensive life-cycle analysis (LCA) for cotton produced in Tanzania under the Cotton made in Africa Organic (CmiA Organic) standard.
