Tangshan Sanyou and Circ® Announce Partnership to Scale Circ Lyocell in China

Sanyou Chemical Fiber, a large-scale cellulose fiber manufacturer under Tangshan Sanyou Group umbrella, and Circ, a US-based textile-to-textile recycling innovator, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the scaling of recycled cellulosic (namely lyocell) fibers within the textiles sector. Sanyou has committed to purchase pulp for a period of 5 years from Circ’s first commercial-scale facility, which is expected to be operational in 2028.

Collaboration between Sanyou and Circ will result in the production of 30% recycled content lyocell staple fibers thus further enabling the access to and scaling of recycled content fibers.

“As one of the leading global MMCF producers, Sanyou’s commitment to Circ demonstrates both the quality of our product and the future of the industry,” said Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ. “Core to Circ—from our technology and products to our partnerships and business strategies—is creating forward momentum towards a truly circular economy in the global fashion industry, and strategic partnerships such as with Sanyou are crucial for the realization of this goal.”

Sanyou and Circ demonstrate the necessity of collaborative relationships in order to scale textile-to-textile recycling innovation effectively. Sanyou’s commitment ensures that its customers have access to high-quality recycled Circ Lyocell at a time when demand for sustainable options outpaces production and brands are looking to diversify their production markets.

Sanyou has received the highest rating under Canopy’s 2024 Hot Button Report, an assessment of MMCF producers’ forest sourcing and their leadership on Next Gen production, enabling them to support the growth of the sustainable fibers market.

“Both Sanyou and Circ are dedicated in their commitment to fostering sustainable practices that reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry,” said Zhang Dongbin, Deputy General Manager of Sanyou. “This strategic partnership will establish new benchmarks in the textile industry thanks to our shared vision for a sustainable future and circular economy.”
