Focus on the entire process chain in nonwovens manufacturing

In an exclusive event with hand-picked customers from the nonwovens industry, Oerlikon Neumag and eight partner companies provided information on process innovations along the nonwovens value chain on July 2 and 3 of this year.

Open House with partners

Around 50 guests took advantage of the opportunity to attend numerous presentations and see various spunbond and meltblown technologies in action at the Neumünster Technology Center. In addition to the patented and (multiple) award-winning solution for producing charged meltblown nonwovens using water atomization, demonstrated using the example of a process with PLA, the spunbond processes for producing BiCo PET/CoPET and PP geotextiles were also presented.

Presentations along the process chain

Eight partner companies from all stages of the nonwovens manufacturing process made an indispensable contribution: Weko presented its solutions for spin finish applications. Dilo presented machine concepts and innovations in the field of needling technology. Brückner provided information on thermoprocessing lines for finishing nonwovens, while Mahlo focused on online measurement systems. Oerlikon Barmag provided an insight into its diverse range of pumps, which are also indispensable in the nonwoven process. In addition to the presentation on the Oerlikon Nonwoven Meltblown system, TotalEnergies Corbion contributed to the topic of sustainable raw materials with a presentation on Luminy® PLA.

Somatec rounded off the event with a presentation on the world of winding, and Comerio Ercole showcased innovations in the field of calender solutions. “A successful event here in Neumünster at our nonwovens competence center,” agreed Andreas Frisch and Ingo Mählmann, who are responsible for the business unit. The overall approach and the various process demonstrations in the technical center were well received. “We don't want to deliver isolated solutions, but rather solutions that are coordinated with our customers and the upstream and downstream process stages,” said Andreas Frisch, explaining the format. He added: “Experiencing the technology live and in color is extremely helpful for understanding our solutions.”

Cooperation in the field of meltblown laboratory technology

The Nonwoven Institute (NWI) at North Carolina State University and Oerlikon Nonwoven will be collaborating in the field of meltblown laboratory technology in the future. This was announced by Professor Raoul Farer, Executive Deputy Director of the NWI and Professor at the Wilson College of Textiles at North Carolina State University, and Dr. Ingo Mählmann, Sales Director Nonwoven at Oerlikon Neumag, during this year's ITMA Asia and CITME in Singapore.

Barmag and Neumag showcase innovations at ITMA Asia

With its product brands Oerlikon Barmag, Oerlikon Neumag and Oerlikon Nonwoven, Barmag is presenting itself at this year's ITMA Asia + CITME with innovations in yarn production that are above all one thing: productive and sustainable. From 28 to 31 October this year, the Swiss-based Oerlikon Group company will be showcasing its technologies for the future of yarn production in Singapore in Hall 4, booth C 204.

Focus on sustainability throughout the entire process chain

With a clear focus on sustainability, Barmag, a subsidiary of the Swiss Oerlikon Group, will present comprehensive solutions from its Oerlikon Barmag and Oerlikon Neumag product brands for the plastics industry at K 2025. Under the motto "Barmag Recycling Technologies – Closing the Loop. Opening Potential," Barmag will inform trade visitors about its wide range of services in the field of plastics manufacturing and processing from October 8 to 15. The team of experts from Barmag and its joint ventures BB Engineering (BBE) and Oerlikon Barmag Huitong Engineering (OBHE) will be waiting to welcome visitors in Hall 10, Booth H12.

Techtextil India 2025 commences: Ushering in a new era for functional textiles

Techtextil India 2025, a premier trade fair for technical textiles, non-wovens and composites, organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India, has opened today at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, marking its 10th edition. Mayer & Cie. to shut down after failed search for investor – 270 jobs affected

Mayer & Cie., the long-established German manufacturer of circular knitting and braiding machines, will cease operations after its international search for an investor ended without success. The company, based in Albstadt-Tailfingen, had been undergoing insolvency proceedings in self-administration since its filing on 23 September 2025. As Schwarzwälder Bote reports, the insolvency court has now formally opened the proceedings, triggering the decision to wind down the business in an orderly process.

European research project addresses textile waste through integrated recycling technologies

A major European research initiative coordinated by Fraunhofer UMSICHT has been launched to develop integrated solutions for textile waste recycling. The AUTOLOOP project aims to create a comprehensive system that could process 1.24 million tonnes of textile waste annually by 2050, whilst potentially creating over 130,000 green jobs across the EU. This project aims to develop, test and integrate automated sorting, tracing, and closed-loop recycling technologies for polyester-based textiles (NRT), addressing the pressing challenge of textile waste management.

CARBIOS and Wankai sign strategic PET biorecycling pact

CARBIOS (Euronext Growth Paris: ALCRB) and Wankai New Materials (“Wankai”), a listed subsidiary of Zhink Group, the 3rd largest PET producer in China and 4th worldwide, announce the signing of the definitive agreement establishing a strategic partnership for the industrial rollout of CARBIOS’s PET biorecycling technology in Asia. The first milestone will be the construction of a PET biorecycling plant in China.
