Textile Stories: Wool

On the occasion of European Wool Day, Savio proudly presented the volume Textile Stories: Wool, Wednesday 9 April 2025, in the evocative setting of Cascina Era in Sandigliano (Biella).

The editorial project Textile Stories: Wool was born from the experience of the Touch&Feel Area, curated by Savio within its stand at ITMA 2023, the largest international exhibition in the world dedicated to textile technology. On that occasion, it was possible to touch the yarns and fabrics made by Savio customers, admiring up close what a thread produced on a Savio machine can become. An initiative that brought together technology, material and creativity, bringing together some of the best excellences of Italian and international textiles. From this experience was born the idea of ??giving shape to a work, Textile Stories, which intends to tell and enhance the cultural and industrial heritage linked to wool, through the stories and testimonies of some of the main players in the wool textile sector, as well as historical customers and strategic partners of the company.

Result of over a year of work, the volume is configured as a true tribute to the wool fiber, reinterpreted today in a contemporary and sustainable way. More than a technical catalogue, Textile Stories: Wool is a collector's book, an editorial object curated down to the smallest details that brings together the contributions of 15 international partners, including 13 wool and spinning mills, mostly from Biella, that actively collaborate with Savio and that share common values ??with the company. Through evocative and emotional images and engaging narratives, the stories of the partners Botto Giuseppe, Filati Buratti, Di.Vè, Falconeri, Filatura Lacfimi, Filatura Luisa, Filatura di Vittorio Veneto, Lanificio Bottoli, Michell Y Cia (Peru), Olimpias – Manufacturing Division di Benetton, Spectrum Yarns (UK), Vimar1991, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, have taken shape.

Also contributing to the creation of the work were Danilo Craveia, professional archivist and technical manager of the Fabbrica della Ruota museum in Pray (BI), coordinator of the Rete Archivi Biellesi and scientific director of some of the most important archive centers in the textile-fashion sector, including Zegna, Vitale Barberis Canonico and Loro Piana, as well as curator of the introduction to the volume dedicated to the history and identity of the Biella textile district; and the IWTO - International Wool Textile Organisation based in Brussels, which supported the drafting of the introductory section by providing technical and scientific materials on wool fiber.

The event on April 9 was an opportunity to meet, deepen the knowledge of Savio and its most recent investments in innovation, and discuss with the protagonists of the wool supply chain in a stimulating and informal context. An exciting collaboration, which allowed Savio to express its creativity in telling the story of the excellence of wool through an editorial project rich in identity, emotion and vision.

In addition to the partners involved in the book, the event was also attended by numerous clients from the wool sector, including Ermenegildo Zegna, Loro Piana, Piacenza, Marzotto and Reda.

For Savio it was a source of great pride to see the main players in the supply chain gathered together in a relaxed and authentic context, who had the opportunity to discuss, exchange ideas, visions and suggestions. It was also gratifying to perceive the enthusiasm and shared appreciation for the project, a sign of work recognized and felt by those present.

The event was enriched by a talk by Dario Casalini, founder of SlowFiber, on the topic of sustainability in textiles and the evolution of production models.

With this project, Savio renews its commitment to promoting initiatives capable of enhancing Italian and international know-how, strengthening the dialogue between industry, culture and innovation.

“Textile Stories: Wool” is the first chapter of an editorial journey destined to continue, with the aim of exploring and describing the richness of textile fibres and the people who, every day, safeguard their value.

On Wednesday April 9th, SAVIO celebrated European Wool Day with a special event in Biella for its customers: Textile Stories:Wool.
