Fit for the working world of tomorrow with online remote trainings

Digitisation, Industry 4.0 and the expertise in this field should make us fit for the working world of tomorrow. Nevertheless, these important topics are pushed into the background in times of Corona. But can we afford to waive the necessary trainings?

"No", says ITA Academy Managing Director Nicolina Praß. "We convey this expertise in our online remote training "Digital Transformation" and offer our customers the opportunity to participate from their home office in times of Corona.”

Other important training courses such as the "Textile Summer School" and "Basics of Textile Technology" are now also offered remotely online.

"There is much more to textiles than you think", laughs Nicolina Praß. "Medical textiles such as stents help us in health care, textiles such as airbags secure and protect us in the car and make life at home comfortable with carpets, sofas and much more. Textile concrete is used in architecture and reduces carbon dioxide pollution. Therefore, knowledge about textiles is important for almost all branches of industry.

Because textiles are in demand locally and around the world, it is a national and international business at the same time. Therefore, we offer some training courses in German and other training courses in English."

We will impart knowledge about textile value creation from 13 - 15 May in our "Textile Summer School" or from 28 - 30 July in our training course "Basics of textile technology". They will impart expertise about the entire textile process chain. Starting with fibre science, through yarn and surface production to finishing and textile testing methods, all essential topics are covered.

Both training courses are therefore suitable for interested employees and trainees from all areas of the company along the textile chain who wish to acquire or refresh specialist knowledge. This also gives lateral entrants and specialists with training from outside the industry the opportunity to enter the world of textiles more easily.

With the "Textile Summer School" we want to address both international and national customers. A good knowledge of English is required for participation. The course "Basics of Textile Technology" will be held in German.

Pellet press enables thermomechanical textile recycling on a pilot scale at ITA

Since the end of 2025, the technical centre of the Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University has been equipped with a pellet press from the manufacturer Amandus Kahl GmbH & Co. KG, Reinbek, Germany. This press can efficiently compact shredded synthetic textiles at a throughput of up to 25 kg/h and process them into pellets with a diameter of 4 mm.

Solid Air Dynamics wins second place at RWTH Innovation Award

On 30 January, RWTH spin-off Solid Air Dynamics was awarded second place in the RWTH Innovation Awards for its research in the field of aerogel fibres. Manufactured from renewable raw materials, aerogel fibres offer outstanding thermal insulation, are extremely lightweight and completely biodegradable, and can consist of over 90 per cent air.

Award-winning research for sustainable carbon fibre cycles

Sustainable recycling of carbon fibres is possible through targeted electrochemical surface modification, which makes the sizing of carbon fibres resistant to solvolysis. ITA PhD student Sabina Dann was awarded the MSW Award from RWTH Aachen University for her master's thesis on this development. The award ceremony took place on 12 November 2025 in Aachen.

DIENES at Techtextil 2026: Flexible pilot lines for bio-based fiber development

The growing relevance of bio-based materials in technical textiles is accompanied by increasing demands for reproducibility, high-quality data, and scalable process routes. Especially when working with cellulose and its derivatives, chitosan, lignin-based approaches, or bio-based PAN as a carbon-fiber precursor, R&D teams face variable feedstock quality, tighter process windows, and the need for reliable comparability across trials. This calls for flexible, data-driven experimental setups that can be reconfigured efficiently when recipes, solvents, and raw-material batches change.

Gunold showcases embroidery product range and services at Texprocess

At Texprocess 2026, GUNOLD will present numerous hands-on examples related to embroidery in Hall 8, Booth E20. The focus is on creative embroidery designs as well as the extensive product range of threads, nonwovens, and accessories for embroidery and embellishment. “Trade visitors can once again look forward to many new and creative embroidery designs.
