Hexcel announces official opening of FAHCCT laboratory in Shanghai

Hexcel (NYSE:HXL), Progen and Future Aerospace celebrated the official opening of their new joint venture laboratory and materials testing facility in Shanghai, China.

Future Aerospace Hexcel Commercial Composite Testing Limited(FAHCCT)will provideChina with a world-class aerospace standard materials testing laboratory that provides technical services including support with materials qualification for commercial aircraft programs. Planned activities at the site will include mechanical and chemical testing of composite laminate specimens (including fatigue performance), material qualifications, and provision of support for customer supply chains in China.

This extensive new laboratory, with more than 1,000 square meters of floor space, will be fully operational in the coming weeks, employing 18 technicians to perform highly reliable testing of composite materials for commercial aerospace customers in China and the wider Asian region.

The new laboratory was awarded AS9100 certification in May 2019 and will work on existing and future aerospace customer specifications using state of the art equipment and standards that are already in use at other Hexcel facilities worldwide.

KARL MAYER Technical Textiles will be showcasing exciting new application potentials for multiaxial non-crimp fabrics in combination with the pultrusion process at the upcoming JEC in Hall 5, Booth C 46. The advancement of the tried-and-tested pultrusion process enables the cost-efficient production of complex CFRP multi-chamber profiles, which are used in the CETROVO high-speed metro. Development of bio-based polyethylene fibers for textile applications – BB Engineering partici-pates in the bioPEtex research project

In the German research project bioPEtex, BB Engineering (BBE) is working with other partners to develop textiles made from 100% bio-based polyethylene (PE). The aim is to make use of this poly-mer, which has hardly been used in the chemical fiber industry to date. BBE is contributing its spinning and texturizing expertise and developing the texturing process on an industrial scale. The first promising results are already available – opening up new opportu-nities for sustainable and economically attractive applications in the textile industry.
