DSM Dyneema successfully defends attack against one of its key patents in China

Royal DSM, a global science-based company active in health, nutrition, materials, today announced the successful defense of one of its key patents in China. The patent relates to the company’s innovative Dyneema® cut resistant yarns that are used in several protective applications, especially gloves with the highest levels of cut resistance available in the market.

“Competition tried to have the patent invalidated. They did not succeed. This outcome once again confirms the quality and value of our patents”, says Olivier Janin, VP Marketing and Sales of DSM Dyneema.

The result of this decision further adds to the company’s positive track record in intellectual property (IP) cases. It confirms the strength of DSM Dyneema IP portfolio that protect the company’s innovations, as well as protecting our customers against copycats and possible infringements.

The patent for this innovation is granted and protected in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific. In addition to this patent, DSM Dyneema patent portfolio covers more than 200 UHMWPE fiber and fabric related inventions, protected by nearly 2000 individual patents and patent applications in numerous countries worldwide. This vast IP portfolio is the result of the company’s enduring focus on innovation in the field of high performing fibers aimed at protecting people in mechanical industrial markets.

Yarn Expo Spring 2026 wrapped up successfully on 13 March, as a record-high of over 600 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions welcomed more than 25,000 visitors from 113 countries and regions. Held across 27,000 sqm in Hall 8.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the fair highlighted the textile industry’s accelerating shift toward a lower-impact, more functional future. Exhibitors presented eco-friendly organic, regenerated and recycled yarns and fibres, alongside innovative options such as sweat-resistant and high-performance materials. A comprehensive fringe programme further enriched the event, offering practical market insights and new networking opportunities.

Lenzing advances its transformation: Higher EBITDA, stronger free cash flow and more than EUR 200 million in cost savings

The business performance of the Lenzing Group in 2025 was affected particularly in the second half of the year by external factors such as international tariff measures, subdued demand and declining market prices. As a result, revenue decreased slightly by 2.3 percent to EUR 2.6 billion, primarily due to lower fiber sales volumes and lower prices for fibers and pulp, which were further negatively impacted by currency developments. Nevertheless, thanks to the comprehensive Performance Program, Lenzing was able to improve its operating performance and key financial indicators compared with the previous year.

Fraunhofer IAP paves the way for "Green" carbon fibers

A new pilot plant in Guben is set to enable the production of bio-based carbon fibers. The plant is part of the Carbon Lab Factory Lausitz and will make an important contribution to the transformation of the Lausitz region—from a traditionally raw material- and basic industry-oriented region to a hub for innovative high-performance materials. The German federal government and the state of Brandenburg are providing the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP with 53.3 million euros for this purpose.
