Ternua receives two 2021 Ispo Awards for their Miquelon and Rakaposhi jackets
Specifically, the jury, consisting of around fifty industry experts from different countries and disciplines, chose the MIQUELON and RAKAPOSHI jackets, in the Lifestyle Apparel category of the Urban Life segment and the rain gear category of the Outdoor segment respectively, as meriting an ISPO Gold Winner Award for the high level of innovation used in the products. That innovation, for Ternua, has been developed under the parameters of sustainability since its origin.
On one hand, the MIQUELON jacket is a garment inspired by the origins of the brand, in the history of the Basque whalers who back in the 15th century used the island of Miquelon as a settlement when they went to hunt whales in the Newfoundland area (Ternua in Basque). It's a biodegradable men's and women's jacket for urban use that is highly functional. And it is made entirely with natural materials, 100% organic cotton for shell and the lining and Ventile® technology - a special high quality cotton - as insulation to protect against inclement weather. And it also has a PFC free water repellent treatment. It is a technical jacket that, because of its design, has a small carbon footprint and promotes the circular economy. Furthermore, it was conceived to protect people from wind and rain on one hand and to protect nature and the whales on the other. Along those lines, it should be noted that Ternua will donate part of the sales of the MIQUELON jacket to protecting whales through the WDC -Whales and Dolphins Conservation- association, which the brand has collaborated with for more than 30 years and through which it has adopted four whales. Estimated RRP €350 (https://www.ispo.com/en/ispo-award/2021/ternua-miquelon-jacket-mw)

The RAKAPOSHI jacket, on the other hand, is a highly technical mountaineering garment for men and women. It was initially and specially developed for Japanese mountaineers and friends of the brand Kazuya Hiraide and Kenro Nakajima, who won the 2020 Piolet d'Or for their ascent of Rapakoshi (7788 m, Karakoram, Pakistan) via the up to now virgin south face in July 2019, for their expeditions. It is a jacket where all the knowledge of those professional athletes has been deposited and it responds to the most technical needs of world class climbers and mountaineers.
In fact, it could be said it is the most breathable mountaineering jacket on the market. It is made with recycled textiles and stands out for being designed with the innovative Shoeller® Aerobrane (10k/90k) membrane that provides maximum protection against the climate. It is the perfect balance between being a water and wind repellent and being highly breathable.
The water repellent treatment used on the jacket is also PFC free. All of that has been possible because of the brand's know how in terms of craftsmanship, which gives them the capacity to design any garment in an artisanal way at their headquarters in Arrasate and adapt changes and personalize details in situ at their mini-factory. Ternua has been clothing top rank mountaineers since its origins in 1994, accompanying them on their adventures and expeditions and protecting them from the inclemencies of the weather using the most advanced and sustainable materials and technologies on the market. Estimated RRP €499.95 (https://www.ispo.com/en/ispo-award/2021/ternua-rakaposhi-jacket-mw)

Both jackets will be available for selective advance sales starting in September 2021.
These two ISPO AWARDS are in addition to the ones previously awarded. Specifically, a 2019 award for their ski suit made with disused fishing nets from their Redcycle project, in 2017 for their “Craddle” jackets made entirely of materials that are both recycled and recyclable and in 2016 for their “Terranova” and “South River” jackets. Designed with GORE TEX and recycled feather fill. These awards are a confirmation of the excellent work being done by the Ternua Group R&D department, which is always in the vanguard of outdoor trends worldwide.
