Staple fibers for PP geotextiles reach new quality level

The new staple fiber technology center of the Neumünster-based plant construction company Oerlikon Neumag, which opened in 2022, is now also available to customers for tests on continuous inline pilot lines for processing various polymers. The ultra-modern technology center initially focused on the further development of polyester fibers.

Polypropylene inline tests for geotextile applications achieve excellent results

Joint tests with a well-known fiber producer show excellent values in the inline process for polypropylene geotextile applications. Tenacities of well over 6 cN/dtex were achieved while residual elongation remained high. This means that the fibers exceed the parameters currently established in geotextile applications. "The demand for geotextiles is growing with higher traffic volumes and increasing climate extremes," says Oerlikon Neumag Head of Development Dr. Friedrich Lennemann. "We are seeing a trend in fibers towards higher tenacity combined with high elongation. In view of the results achieved, we believe our customers are well equipped to meet this trend with our technology."

High-tech staple fiber technology center supports the development of new fiber products

The 2100 m² facility provides all interested fiber manufacturers with access to current staple fiber technologies and processes. The modular fiber band processing line allows the variable combination of all components in order to reproduce the respective process. Extensive analysis options provide detailed findings for further development.

Oerlikon Manmade Fibers Solutions recently hosted its highly anticipated Innovation and Technology Day at the Deltin Hotel in Daman by end of January 2025. The event attracted over 300 participants, including industry experts, partners, and stakeholders, who gathered to explore the latest advancements and trends in the manmade fibers industry in India.

Successful trade fair appearance of the IVGT members

With a total of 38,000 visitors from 102 countries and 1,700 exhibitors, the 20th Techtextil 2024 from 23 to 26 April in Frankfurt am Main once again maintained its position as the world's largest trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens. The Industry Association for Finishing – Yarns – Fabrics – Technical Textiles also draws a positive conclusion about the course of the trade fair for its members.

Techtextil, the most important trade fair of the year for Dietenheim-based yarn spinning mill Gebr Otto, came to an end last Friday, April 26. The company presented its products and reported on its latest developments at the BW-i joint stand: These include a concept for sustainable period underwear developed together with Kelheim Fibres, a yarn blend of cotton and native hemp and the collaboration with the recycling studio at ITA Augsburg. Lenzing reports improved half-year results and advances strategic transformation

Despite a persistently challenging market environment in the first half of 2026, characterized by volatile energy and raw material prices, subdued global consumer demand and intensified competition from Asia, the Lenzing Group significantly improved its financial performance. Net result after tax more than doubled to EUR 35.6 million, compared with EUR 15.2 million in the first half of 2025. Free cash flow increased to EUR 45.8 million, while EBITDA amounted to EUR 239.2 million. Revenue totaled EUR 1.27 billion, compared with EUR 1.34 billion in the previous year.
