Smart automation to fix gaps of skilled staff

Advanced technology for high quality and efficiency at textile finishing - ITMA Asia 2025, Singapore As customer expectations rise and skilled labor becomes increasingly scarce, smart sensor technology and automated control systems have become essential in modern textile finishing. PLEVA meets these challenges with its renowned, robust and reliable sensors, specifically designed for the demanding conditions of textile production.

“Customer demands grow while skilled staff declines — online sensors and control systems are key to efficiency and quality assurance. Our process control system PLEVATEC smart is designed to meet exactly those needs. It improves operation at stenters and other drying processes with sensor modules. It enables our customers easy operation to produce faster, save resources and improve product quality and reproducibility. Similarly, our weft-straightener SL smart is easy to operate and maintain while delivering perfect straightening results", says Managing Director Kathrin Pleva.

PLEVATEC smart as a modular system can integrate sensors for fabric/air temperature (TDS), residual moisture (RR), exhaust humidity (FS), and pick/course density (CAM) into one intelligent control platform with recipe management, history data and well-structued overview page. It enables manufacturers to benefit from stable processes and transparent drying/heat treatment processes, better product quality, improved energy efficiency, and increased productivity.

The SL smart weft-straightener ensures exceptional straightening accuracy across a wide range of fabric types. Its unique traversing camera system for best detection, user-friendly interface, and recipe management make operation intuitive and efficient – with minimal manual input and low maintenance requirements.

A notable success: Harris Tweed Hebrides in Scotland – a world-class producer of 100% wool, handwoven tweed – replaced their pinwheel straightening system with SL smart.

David Stewart reports: “The traversing camera is extremely accurate and adapts automatically to the fabric. Straightening is precise and non-damaging, with minimal operator involvement. We’ve seen clear gains in productivity – and received excellent support from PLEVA.”

PLEVA will showcase its highlights at ITMA Asia 2025, hall 07, booth A210.

SL Smart Weft-Straightener success at Harris Tweed Hebrides, UK

High quality fabric is essential for any finisher who wants to ensure consistent quality and resource efficiency. A particularly important quality criterion is straight weft and straight course fabric. The Scottish tweed manufacturer Harris Tweed Hebrides finishes 100% woolen, handwoven cloth and stands as a world class leader in British luxury cloth with an extensive, high quality product range. The company was looking for a weft-straightening system which, in contrast to the previously used pinwheel system, could not damage the wool.
