Railcar carpets reinvented

Lantal Textiles product (c) 2012 Lantal Textiles
Lantal Textiles AG is presenting its latest lineup of products at InnoTrans in Berlin from September 18 to 21, 2012 (Hall 1.1/Stand 224). The Swiss company is a leading specialist for all-in-one interior solutions for trains, trams, buses, and aircraft.
The portfolio includes two carpet innovations that have attracted the attention of rail system operators and designers alike: A looped carpet with custom designs and an impressive service life as well as a looped wool carpet for enhanced walking comfort. The extensive product line also features hard-wearing seat cover fabrics in velvet and flat weaves, headrest cover fabrics, leathers, and carpets. A large selection of qualities allows carriers to find the products with the set of characteristics that comply with their requirements. Ready-to-install products such as seat covers, precut carpets, headrest covers and other fit-and-go elements as well as design and laboratory services round out Lantal's competence in the domain of all-in-one solutions with one-stop shopping convenience. Innovative textile floorcoverings For the first time, Lantal is showcasing a looped carpet with a remarkable service life that can be individually designed and colored to suit each public transport network operator's specific preferences. “The quality of the carpet is compelling,” says Hanspeter Baumgartner, head of development and innovation at Lantal. “It is extremely wear-resistant, which makes it ideal for rolling stock on high traffic density routes.” The other debut is a looped carpet in 100% wool. It combines the advantages of wool on the surface with a looped construction. The result is outstanding walking comfort plus a long-lasting as-new look across an extended service life.
Cost savings Cost pressures are challenging railway operators as well. For this reason, Lantal not only offers yardage carpet but also engineering services as well as precut, ready-to-install carpet parts. Floor mapping, preparation of blueprints, trial installation, and fine-tuning are single-source services that reduce the customer's process times and costs. Additionally, Lantal can propose a solution that massively shortens turnaround times when a railcar's carpeting must be replaced. A selfadhesive coating can be applied to the conventional carpet and on aluminum floors works according to the “Post-it” principle: the carpet is quickly laid without the customary double-sided tape and at the end of its service life can be removed again without leaving any traces of adhesive. Visualizing the brand Across the entire design continuum, Lantal continues to pursue new trends in genres, colors, and materializations. The creative interpretation of these sources of inspiration constitutes the basis for the development of interior concepts of lasting validity. A key result of this research is the Essentials range, a huge treasure chest of ideas in the form of materials, patterns, and colors, which makes it easier to design attractive and customized railcar interiors that reflect the fleet operator's brand while making a significant contribution to passenger well-being.
