Sustainability remains DOMOTEX's hot Topic

© 2023 Domotex
For the second time, sustainability, circular economy and environmental protection will play a key role at DOMOTEX, the world's leading trade fair for carpets and floorings.

The upcoming event, which takes place from 11 to 14 January 2024, will once again focus on sustainability, circular economy and environmental protection in the carpet and flooring industry. "In a world where resources are becoming scarcer and the consequences of the climate crisis are starting to hit us more frequently, sustainability must become an integral part of everything we do. That is why we have made the decision to maintain and expand our value-based keynote theme FLOORED BY NATURE and the special display THE GREEN COLLECTION," explains Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director of DOMOTEX.

Extraordinary presentations and innovative products, current research projects, a haptic material show as well as an inspiring conference program – that's what visitors can expect at THE GREEN COLLECTION in hall 23. In collaboration with TFI Aachen and the material database raumprobe, THE GREEN COLLECTION is staging the megatrend of sustainability for visitors to experience. "We are looking forward to the continuation of our successful collaboration and will carry on with our well-established approach of providing information on current research and regulatory measures in the field of sustainability. In addition, we will be adding the important aspect of "advanced trainings" to our approach”, reveals Dr. phil. Jacqueline Lemm, Director of TFI Aachen and chairwoman of the jury of this year's GREEN COLLECTION Award.

Awards with green overtones

The highlight of the special display will be The GREEN COLLECTION AWARD ceremony. An international jury of experts will review the submitted exhibits and make a pre-selection, which will be exhibited on THE GREEN COLLECTION area throughout the entire show. This year’s jury will be chaired by Dr. phil. Jacqueline Lemm, Director of TFI Aachen. Also part of the jury will be Kemp Harr, publisher of the industry magazine Floor Focus and Reto Aschwanden, Managing Director of the non-profit organization Label STEP.

Award categories reflect different aspects of sustainability

The four award categories all focus on sustainability, but each category addresses different aspects of sustainable products or production processes.

• Eco-friendly Products: Focuses on organically and ethically produced materials, as well as recycled and upcycled raw materials.

• Healthy Products: Focuses on the production of carpets and floor coverings with low-emission products.

• Sustainable Production: This category covers alternative, energy-saving and other sustainable production processes of the flooring industry and the corresponding products.

• Social Responsibility: Reflects the active commitment against child and forced labor, and intends to certify manufacturers who produce in an exemplary manner without exploiting their employees.

Manufacturers can register for the GREEN COLLECTION Award until 10 November 2023. Even companies that are not actively participating as exhibitors at DOMOTEX can submit their products for the award.
