Techtextil and Texprocess Innovation Award 2024 presented to ITM

The Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) and the Institute of Concrete Structures (IMB) at TU Dresden receive one of two Techtextil Innovation Awards in the "New Concept" categoryfor a new manufacturing process for precast concrete elements using carbon, which is said to save up to a third of concrete.

This is what it's all about: in order to save material, so-called hollow core slabs are preferably used in new buildings. These are precast concrete elements which, in contrast to solid reinforced concrete ceilings, contain cavities and therefore require less concrete. With the new manufacturing process, which the Institutes have developed in collaboration with companies from the textile and construction industries, hollow-core slabs can be produced with carbon, which should save even more concrete and thusCO2 in the future. "Hollow-core slabs made from carbon concrete using our new process require 28% less concrete than conventional reinforced concrete hollow-core slabs - with the same load-bearing capacity," says ITM research group leader Dr.-Ing. Lars Hahn.

The award-winning process should soon enable private and industrial buildings to be built in a more sustainable and resource-saving way than before.

The Texprocess Innovation Award in the "Digitalization + AI" category goes to the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) and the Chair of Development and Assembly of Textile Products at TU Dresden for a new evaluation method for body scans based on 4D scans.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Yordan Kyosev said: "Soft body parts can thus be measured in motion. With such 4D body data, clothing manufacturers could develop textiles that are more comfortable to wear in the future".

Teaching Award for the Day Of The Faculty of mechanical science and engineering 2025

On June 28, 2025, almost 300 guests celebrated the Day of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the Boulevardtheater Dresden. Hung Le Xuan was awarded the Innovation Prize at the SAMPE Germany Symposium 2025 last week for his dissertation "Novel textile reinforcements with integrated textile-based in-situ sensors for the reinforcement of existing concrete structures against short-term dynamic events".

Commissioning of the FRS 1800 high-temperature rheometer at the ITM

In March 2025, the new Furnace System 1800 (FRS 1800) high-temperature rheometer from Anton Paar was put into operation at the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden. The installation was carried out by Fabian Barth and Peter Brandes from Anton Paar in collaboration with Florian Pötzsch and Dr. Dilbar Aibibu from the ITM.

TU Dresden’s ITM and KOTMI sign MOU to promote research into recycled fibers and industrial textile applications

The Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden and the Korea Textile Machinery Convergence Research Institute (KOTMI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their collaboration in recycled fiber applications for industrial textile products. The agreement marks a significant step in fostering joint research and development in sustainable textile technologies.

Successful trade fair appearance of the IVGT members

With a total of 38,000 visitors from 102 countries and 1,700 exhibitors, the 20th Techtextil 2024 from 23 to 26 April in Frankfurt am Main once again maintained its position as the world's largest trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens. Circular economy, sustainable and regional: Gebr. Otto has answers to the topics of Techtextil 2024

Techtextil, the most important trade fair of the year for Dietenheim-based yarn spinning mill Gebr Otto, came to an end last Friday, April 26. The company presented its products and reported on its latest developments at the BW-i joint stand: These include a concept for sustainable period underwear developed together with Kelheim Fibres, a yarn blend of cotton and native hemp and the collaboration with the recycling studio at ITA Augsburg. The Gebr. Otto trade fair team can draw a positive conclusion: numerous visitors on all days of the fair as well as orders for samples and new project inquiries to take home.
