Ahlstrom OptiPad™ wins FiltXPO 2026 award for liquid filtration innovation
The award-winning filtration solution combines specially engineered fiber-based filter media with an integrated filtration powder to improve hot cooking oil filtration and reduce handling requirements.
OptiPad™ combines Ahlstrom's depth filtration media with DuraFry® filtration powder from DuraFry Solutions. The powder is pre-impregnated directly into the filter pad, eliminating the need for operators to handle and add loose filtration powder separately.
The integrated approach is designed to simplify filtration procedures, improve cleanliness and reduce handling time in commercial frying operations. According to Ahlstrom, the solution can also help extend cooking oil life, reduce waste and lower operating costs.
Engineered fiber structure supports filtration performance
At the core of OptiPad™ is a proprietary fiber blend that forms a micro-channel structure within the filter medium.
This structure is designed to capture contaminants while maintaining oil flow during the filtration process, helping operators achieve consistent frying performance.
The combination of depth filtration and integrated filtration powder brings together two filtration functions within a single ready-to-use product.
“This award recognizes OptiPad™ as a compelling example of Ahlstrom’s innovation in action - combining our proprietary fiber expertise, advanced material design, and deep understanding of filtration applications to solve a real operational challenge,” says Clas Läck, Head of Liquid Filtration at Ahlstrom. “With a contribution from DuraFry Solutions, we have turned Ahlstrom’s technical expertise into a practical, high-performing solution designed around the needs of foodservice operators.”
Industry recognition for filtration technology
The FiltXPO™ Filtration Awards recognise developments demonstrating technical innovation and practical benefits for the filtration industry. Winners are selected through industry voting.
For Ahlstrom, the award highlights the potential of engineered fiber-based materials to improve filtration processes in applications where operational efficiency, material performance and resource consumption are closely linked.
OptiPad™ demonstrates how the integration of functional additives into specialised filter media can simplify filtration processes while supporting more efficient use of consumable resources.
