Deadline approaching for textile research grants

The deadline is approaching for new textile research grants from the AATCC Foundation Student Research Support Program. The grants support undergraduate and graduate student research on textile-related projects. Applications must be submitted prior to October 15, 2023, at 5:00 PM CST to be considered. Awarded research grants will be announced December 2023. The AATCC Foundation Student Research Review Board awards grants to all textile-related projects.

This year, priority is given to proposals for research related to test method development, evaluation of textile performance in actual use situations, and correlations between these two.

Grant awards range from $500 to $4000. Recipients can request an additional $500 to reimburse travel and/or registration expenses to present their research at a technical conference. Reimbursement will be determined based on the project and the event. Priority will be given to presentations at the AATCC Textile Discovery Summit or other AATCC programs.

The application is a simple three-page form including a description of the proposed project and the student’s resume. An advisor’s letter of support is encouraged but not required.





Applicants can submit grant proposals electronically to Dr. Yiqi Yang, Chair, AATCC Foundation Student Research Support Program.  Additional guidelines, application, and submission details are available on the AATCC Foundation webpage. Funding decisions are made by a panel of academic and industry professionals from across the textile industry.

The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) recognized the winners of the 2025 Herman & Myrtle Goldstein Graduate Student Paper Competition. The AATCC Foundation Student Research Support Grant Program provides financial assistance for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing textile-related projects. Students may submit proposals now for funding to be awarded January 2026. Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2025, to be considered.

Cotton Brazil Dialogues 2026 concludes with 50 international participants immersed in Brazilian cotton production

The Cotton Brazil Dialogues concludes its 2026 edition after a series of technical visits to farms, cotton gins and reference centers, as well as workshops focused on Brazilian cotton production. A total of 50 participants from 14 countries took part in the field trips. European textile industry calls for €10 handling fee on ultra-fast-fashion imports

The introduction of the €3 customs duty on low-value imports marks an important milestone in Europe’s efforts to address the challenges created by the rapid growth of ultra-fast-fashion imports. Business situation weakens slightly, but the industry stays cautiously optimistic

The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) has published the results of its 39th Global Textile Industry Survey (GTIS), conducted from 14 to 22 July 2026 among companies along the entire global textile value chain. Worldwide, 10% of participants rated their business situation as good, 53% as satisfactory and 37% as bad — a balance of -26pp, down from -17pp in May but still well above the 2023 lows. All regions are now in negative territory, from South Asia at -3pp to North & Central America at -58pp.

Synthetic polymers used in technical textiles can be effectively protected against degradation caused by heat, oxygen, and water through the use of stabilizer systems. This enables service lives of several decades, extending to more than 50 years. As the use of durable technical textiles continues to grow, so does the demand for reliable methods to predict their service life within economically feasible testing periods.
