Wearable Technology X Textile Design Competition call for entries

Featuring the world’s latest smart textile technology, ShanghaiTex 2017 (November 27-30, 2017@SNIEC, Pudong, Shanghai) will cooperate with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Zhejiang Sci-tech University, and well-known wearable technology company to organize a “Wearable Technology X Textile Design Competition".
The competition is aiming to achieve the integration of technology, fashion and creativity. Worldwide students and designers of or under age 30 from textile, fashion, product, electronics, engineering or other related fields are all welcomed to join.

About The Wearable Technology X Textile Design Competition

With the theme of "To design a piece of smart textile product that can improve the life of the people, through integration of wearable technology and textile", the competition intends to encourage designers to combine original ideas with high-tech textile. The judging panels will consist of institute professor, designer, industry professionals, and expert from textile machinery enterprise etc. And the evaluation criteria will mainly focus on six factors: integration of wearable technology and textile product, application of smart technology, market potential, functionality, aesthetics, and innovation.

As the final assessment and award ceremony will be held at ShanghaiTex 2017 on show opening day, the 5 finalists will be invited to present and showcase their work on-site to worldwide textile industry insiders. The competition winner may be offered a 6-week internship by one of the judges, wearable technology company Antelope, at its Germany headquarter. The design competition is expected to form a bridge between textile and emerging technology industry for mutual communication and development.

Organizer and Professional Cooperation Partners

Competition Organizer – ShanghaiTex will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from 27-30 November 2017. The show will focus on technology and equipment used in sportswear through a series of concurrent seminars in “Wearable Technology”, “Sports Bra” and “Sports Shoes” themes, aiming to explore the cutting-edge sports textile application trends.

Technical Advisor – Antelope is the world’s first performance enhancing sportswear with full body electro muscle stimulation that helps workout in the most effective way. The company will also showcase its latest sportswear technology and communicate with industry players at the ShanghaiTex 2017 “Wearable Technology x Textile” seminar.

Academic Supporter – Prof. Xiaoming Tao, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prof. Tao is the founder of the Nanotechnology Centre of Functional and Intelligent Textiles and Apparel at the University in 2004 and her major research area covers advanced fibrous materials and their applications in flexible electronics and photonics. As one of the competition judges, Prof. Tao will share her research and professionalism in smart technology at the sportswear seminar.
