Follmann is due to take over the business area of water-based coatings for digital printing media from com2C on 1 March 2018 with a further expansion of its product portfolio.

Whether for paper, films, non-wovens or textiles – with the takeover of the business area of coatings for digital printing from com2C in Porta Westfalica, Follmann will be able to offer their customers a comprehensive range of ready-to-use, water-based ink-receiving coatings for digital printing from 1 March 2018. In order to react to the general trend of steadily increasing individualisation by means of digitisation in a wide range of sectors, the family-owned company, based in Minden, will be able to meet the demands of a rapidly growing market.

As renowned experts for the development and manufacture of special chemicals, Follmann already offers a wide spectrum of products and services. This ranges from water-based printing inks and low-migration adhesives for the packaging industry, to decorative coatings for the wallpaper and decor industry and high-performance adhesives for the wood and furniture industry, through to functional coatings and microcapsules for a wide range of other industries.

With the acquisition of coatings for digital printing from com2C on 1 March, Follmann will be expanding its portfolio to include water-based coating substances, which perfectly round off their existing market activities, while also offering the opportunity to tap into completely new application options and markets. These ready-to-use ink-receiving coatings enable the subsequent digital printing of a wide range of substrates, such as films (PET, PVC, PE, PP), paper, cardboard, non-woven, tissue or textiles (PES, CO + mixtures). The functional surface coatings are the ideal basis for a high-quality print design. They guarantee high colour brilliance and rich, vibrant colours, making bleeding a thing of the past. As well as high optical density, the coatings also offer increased UV stability and flame retardancy if required.

Another key feature of these market-tested and continually further developed products is the fact that it is possible to find a solution for every imaginable problem. This has made it possible to respond rapidly to the continuously changing demands of customers and markets with innovative product solutions. Furthermore, the ink-receiving coatings are extremely efficient and their high drying speeds allow a fast further processing. Digitally printed products that can be coated include banner ads, roll-ups, labels, wall and floor coverings, tissue, packaging and technical textiles.

"Due to our expertise in water-based coatings, coating products for digitally printable substrates are an excellent addition to our portfolio", said Dr Jörg Seubert, Managing Director at Follmann. "We are delighted that this business expansion enables us to satisfy a rapidly growing market and encourage individual printing projects, which digital printing has now made easier and more affordable, and thus more feasible."

com2C is splitting up with this business segment in order to focus solely on its core business, the manufacture and marketing of already coated digital printing media.

A date for your calendar: From 15 - 18 May 2018, Follmann will be exhibiting at Fespa in Berlin, the specialist trade fair for digital printing (Hall 6.2, Stand E10).
