Lena Nussmann wins an award with a purse of 5,000 Euros

13 young textile branch professionals have been presented with awards by the Wilhelm Lorch Foundation. Included among the prizewinners is Lena Nussmann, who is working on her bachelor’s degree in cooperation with the Human Solutions GmbH in Kaiserslautern.

Strikingly attractive: The right size & fit try-ons Ms. Nussmann makes sure that the size & fit is right. The 26-year old compares real and virtual try-ons for size & fit – and her work has shown that long-term savings can be made with virtual fashion manikins. Commenting on the award, she said, “I can hardly believe they selected me, but I really enjoyed my work and that probably contributed a lot to this success. I’m convinced that 3D CAD is the technology of the future.” For her comparisons, Ms. Nussmann chose basic blouse and pants patterns which she designed using dimensions from the new SizeGERMANY sizetable. Simulations were carried out with the 3D CAD program Vidya. While working for her master’s degree, Ms. Nussmann is employed in the Sizing & Fitting Division of the Human Solutions Group.

Commenting on the future market of the apparel industry, Anke Rissiek, Lena Nussmann’s mentor at Human Solutions said, “The paradigm change from 2D to 3D apparel product development is continuing unabated. With Vidya, the appropriate virtual avatars and the corresponding real fashion manikins, Human Solutions has an integrative technological concept, one that brings the virtual and real worlds together and makes sizing & fitting statements comparable. This is the basic prerequisite for acceptance by the user.”

The Wilhelm Lorch Foundation is committed to the promotion of vocational education & training, student aid and science and research. Talented young professionals from all sectors of the entire textile industry are particularly supported in the fields of training and further education. The prizes were awarded in Mid-May of 2013 - around 100 applications were submitted this year.
