Performance meets sustainability - Sandler AG at the Techtextil 2013 exhibition

Sandler pleat filter medium (c) 2013 Sandler
Lucky number. For the 13th consecutive time, family-owned and –operated nonwoven specialist Sandler (Hall 3.1 / Booth D52) from Schwarzenbach/Saale, Bavaria will present its extensive range of nonwovens at this year‘s Techtextil in Frankfurt/Main. It is the 13th participation in this fair for the family-run company.

Established products will be showcased alongside new developments for the automotive industry, filtration, the construction industry, hygiene and wipes applications as well as home textiles.

Nonwovens for the automotive industry

For the automotive industry, Sandler presents a broad spectrum of highly efficient fibrous absorbers of the sawasorb® product series. These lightweight materials contribute to lightweight construction in the vehicle and support the preservation of valuable resources. The single-polymer nonwovens are not only recyclable themselves; they are partly made from recycled fibres. A definite plus for sustainable mobility. In exterior applications such as the engine compartment Sandler absorber nonwovens slow down the cooling of the engine and connected subassemblies. This way, cold starts are reduced; fuel consumption as well as wear and tear are lowered. Excellent sound insulators, Sandler nonwovens reduce the sound field of the engine and dampen road noise. A large inner surface supports efficient sound insulation. Latest developments in this sector include highly efficient fibrous absorbers, which can be processed into permanently hydrophobic moulded parts for exterior applications. Neither engine fluids nor other influences affect these materials. They offer a 100 percent textile alternative to currently used materials.

For seat upholstery Sandler showcases functional alternatives as well. These lightweight nonwovens are breathable and have a high recovery rate, excellent extensibility as well as high compression hardness. Thereby, they bear every weight and support a good microclimate of the seat. Particularly in leather seats Sandler nonwovens stabilise the cover fabric, prevent overexpansion and thus creasing. The quality of the leather seat is thus increased for long-lasting comfort.

Sandler carrier materials for moulded and pressed parts can be flexibly moulded and pressed and are characterized by a high acoustical efficiency. Cover nonwovens and processing aids complete the product range.

Nonwovens for filtration Also on display are Sandler products for the filtration industry: Filter media for filter classes G3 to E11 for applications in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, automotive filtration and synthetic vacuum cleaner bags. From energy efficient application to disposal—synthetic Sandler pocket filter media contribute to reducing the filter’s life cycle costs. With their low average pressure drop they reduce energy consumption during the operation of the filtration plant. Progressively structured filter media comprise finest fibres of less than 1µm and achieve high efficiency and high dust holding capacity. Even after discharge, Sandler filter media maintain their efficiency and thereby fulfil current testing standards. In 2013, new developments for pleatable filter media are at the centre of Sandler’s trade fair participation. Excellently processable in all common pleating processes, these synthetic filter media of the sawascreen® product series set new standards. A lengthwise oriented fibre structure allows for accurate pleating. The utilised polymers make the pleats resilient and resistant to mechanical influences, temperature or moisture. Another highlight at this year‘s Techtextil are newly developed nonwovens for water filtration.

Material for construction and technical applications Textiles protect us from weather and other influences and at the same time, they are an expression of our style and our personality. Performance, protection and design are also the themes in modern office planning. Quiet rooms allow us to concentrate and to feel comfortable at our workplace, with the furnishings providing individual room design as well as good conversational acoustics. Textiles, in particular nonwoven insulation materials are increasingly tapping into these markets. For housing, office design or sound insulation in industrial buildings, Sandler fibercomfort® nonwovens combine excellent insulation with individual design opportunities.

Facade renovation, the insulation of interior walls and roof or footfall sound insulation are easy with single-polymer Sandler nonwovens. For sound proofing and heat insulation synthetic nonwovens prove themselves as durable multi-taskers and promote environmental protection and the reduction of energy consumption at the same time: In industrial buildings, for example, they are applied as baffles, dampening machine noise and other sounds.

In open plan offices suspended ceilings and partition walls made with nonwovens optimally regulate the noise level in support of concentrated work and also provide possibilities for individual office design. Experience for yourself how even an open room can provide quietness in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the fair: in a conference room at the Sandler booth.

With low thermal conductivity Sandler nonwovens prevent heat loss through walls as well as cold penetrating into the room. The heat output can be reduced; both energy and cost can be saved. Nonwovens for footfall sound insulation and de-coupling materials offer excellent dampening characteristics for permanently undimmed living comfort. In addition, the nonwovens are breathable and absorb only a low amount of moisture. Optimal air circulation is thereby ensured and the growth of mould is prevented. Sandler insulation materials are also resistant to ageing and thus durable. Their low flammability is an additional safety factor. During processing, these nonwovens cause neither itching nor skin irritation and are generally suited for persons suffering from allergies. In technical insulation Sandler nonwovens dependably reduce the noise level and efficiently store heat as insulation material for buffer vessels, pipelines and pipes in solar plants or as sound insulation for electric appliances. Thereby, they also contribute to the conservation of energy. These materials flexibly adapt to every contour. Owing to their high resistance to temperature, UV-radiation and ageing, they ensure permanent sound and heat insulation.

In the technical applications segment Sandler also utilises its know-how in order to generate synergies and develop functional product solutions. For example, spunlaced nonwovens are increasingly applied in multi-layer composites for the construction industry. Here, Sandler materials fulfil a multitude of different functions: they reinforce, seal, protect the other components of the composite, and ensure excellent resistance to ageing and above all to alkali.

With fresh water becoming increasingly scarce, hydroponic supports gain significance. Nonwovens that feature high storage capacity are increasingly brought to the scene in these applications. Sandler sawagrow® is applied in the cultivation of food plants and ornamental plants. The patented material efficiently stores water and ist open-pored structure allows for a higher oxygen content in the cultivation substrate—for healthy plant growth and high crop yield.

Nonwovens for hygiene and wipes applications

Softness, care and elasticity for comfortable use are the topics that will continue to shape products for hygiene, wipes and medical applications. In the market for wipes substrates Sandler offers nonwovens in even lower basis weights. Thereby, raw material utilisation, CO2-emissions resulting from energy consumption and the quantity of waste are reduced, proven Sandler quality is maintained. Started in 2008, the „Less is Best to Nature“ initiative is based on the reduction of basis weights in wipes substrates and has been taken one step further through a new development: bio textile by sandler is made of 100 percent viscose fibres of European origin and, just as the fibres themselves, is certified according to the PEFC standard. Substrates made from FSC-certified are available as well.

This year, Sandler will show Techtextil attendees new developments for household cleaning cloths. With high tensile strength, high dirt absorption and a special fibre structure these nonwovens achieve excellent cleaning results.

For various stretch applications in diapers and other hygiene products the nonwovens manufacturer presents extensible products that provide for perfect fit and high wearing comfort.

For visitors from the medical sector Sandler showcases nonwovens applied in products for wound dressing. They offer excellent elasticity and allow the skin to breathe owing to their air permeability.

Discover how nonwovens can take your applications to new levels. Sandler is looking forward to welcoming you at booth D52 in exhibition hall 3.1.
