Dr. Markus Steilemann appointed head of Bayer’s Polycarbonates business unit

Bayer has appointed Dr. Markus Steilemann (42) as the new head of its Polycarbonates business unit. He succeeds Michael Koenig, who will join the Board of Management of Bayer AG on April 1, 2013. At the same time, Steilemann will become a member of the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience.

Steilemann, whose current role is head of Industrial Marketing, Polycarbonates business unit, joined Bayer as an internal consultant within Bayer’s Corporate Organization and Planning function in 1999. Since then he has held numerous positions with increasing responsibility and gained broad experience in business modeling, organizational development as well as supply chain. In January 2008 he moved to Hong Kong to join the Polycarbonates business unit heading a number of different regional business segments.

In August 2011 he relocated to Shanghai and the global headquarters of the Polycarbonates business unit. He was appointed head of global Industrial Marketing for this unit in July 2012.  

Steilemann studied chemistry at the University of Aachen, Germany, and the University Of Zurich, Switzerland. He holds a PhD in technical chemistry from the University of Aachen and, in addition, a Masters Degree in chemical economics. Steilemann is married with one son.

Grasim Industries announces fresh investment of ₹3094 Crore to expand Lyocell capacity

Grasim Industries Limited, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group and a global leader in cellulosic fibres, today announced an investment of ₹3,094 crore, for Phase II Lyocell capacity of 110K TPA at Harihar, Karnataka. This expansion will consist of 2 lines of 55K TPA (150 Tons per day) each. The first line is expected to be commissioned by 2028, and the second line is expected to be commissioned by 2030.
